A practical guide

Make room for a conversation.

Choose speech services and talk with the team.

All guides
1

Choose the experience

Use dictation to turn speech into a message, Talk for a spoken conversation, or a supported meeting connection for meeting audio. These have separate setup paths.

2

Choose the speech route

In your workspace’s speech settings, select the approved transcription and speech services. Settings can be inherited by Roles and Agents. A stronger customer-only requirement cannot be weakened by a child setting.

3

Check customer-hosted readiness

For local speech, make sure the supported service and direct customer route are ready. A Room follows the strictest applicable member requirement.

4

Start with a short request

Allow microphone access for the interaction, say a simple request, and check the transcript. Listen to the reply and try a correction before moving into a longer task.

5

Understand what continues

The transcript stays with the conversation or Room under its retention rules. The voice path processes audio transiently. Reasoning models, connected tools, and external meeting media have their own processing routes.
